Oirase Gorge, which flows from Lake Towada, is 14km in length. It is situated in Aomori prefecture and is easily accessible by Shinkansen (bullet train) and local bus. The Oirase stream twists and turns through some of the most beautiful woodland in Japan. No matter it is the budding trees in Spring or the yellowish leaves in the Fall, they stand out equally well against the background of the river current. The mossy rocks and waterfalls scattered all along the river, such as Choshi Fall, Kumoi Fall, Asyura Stream to name a few, are icon images of Oirase.
